Panthers sets NEW club record with 75% of all teams bringing home medals from the Provincials!
In 2005/6 Burlington Basketball under the recommendations of Canada Basketball, undertook the challenge of radically changing the way our youth basketball players were being developed.  It was not easy and many questioned whether we were on the right track.  Now a full 7 seasons later the results are being seen on the court.
An unprecedented 75% of all our teams to compete in the Provincials returned home with Medals around their necks.  Receiving accomodations for level of sportsmanship and leadership.
The Panther Athlete Development Model once again proved why parents have made Burlington Basketball Ontario's #1 Basketball club for player registrations.
We would like to congratulate our entire 127 position coaching team from 2011/12 who helped make this happen.

We are growing once again for the 2012/13 season. If you have interest in joining the Burlington Basketball family in any capacity from player to coach to convenor, please email admin@burlingtonbasketball.ca of your interest.

2012 Provincials GOLD!
What does every basketball Mom want for Mother's Day? A rose, a kiss and a photo beside their son biting a GOLD medal from the provincials. Well some Burlington Basketball Mom's got that and more as the Panthers not only won gold but demonstrated how Burlington Panthers players are more than just basketball players but also proud Canadian citizens.
The Panthers discovered one of the volunteer Mom's (from Ottawa), keeping score at the tournament Ottawa was hosting, had her husband in Afganistan for his 3rd tour of duty.
Her two daughters were in the stands so she would not be alone at an event her husband would have volunteered for had he not been serving our country.
The Panthers wanted to show some appreciation for this family so they broke from the rules of the game by calling a time out and lining up on the court.  They asked the crowd of Burlington parents to show this family how much Burlington respected them.
A standing ovation broke out and tears were shed.  The Refs allowed the game to be stopped in order for the players on both teams to shake hands with that Mom and her daughters.
Being a Panther is more than just being a basketball player.  Panthers are leaders and this team of 15/16year olds showed all our younger players just what being a member of the "Panther Pride" and demonstrating "Panther Pride" in action is all about.

2012 Provincials GOLD!
With the Atom Boys Provincial Cahmpionships being held in Burlington this year Burlington Basketball and their Coaches knew it would be the first time Ontario got a chance to see why house league participation was so important with the Burlington Basketball Player Development Model on full display.
So they fielded 2 Atom Boys teams both who brought home great results.
The #1 Team brought home Gold and the #2 Team (formed less than 2 months before the OBAs and included a Co-Ed component) brought home the Consolation Award, in their respective divisions.
Congrats to the  15 League Coaches, 3 Head Coaches and 27 players who committed to showing genuine Panther Pride everytime they took the court! A special thanks to all the Burlington Basketball Family, in all our programs who supported us in this effort!

2012 Provincials GOLD!
"Let's put it all together for the OBAs!" and they did!  Bringing home a GOLD medal for the first time this season the Burlington Basketball Panthers Major Bantam Girls team, proved it's how you finish the season not how you start.
After completing a full season in our AllStar Competitive House League program, the girls (from a team selected last September), played as a team under a tightly controled development model, that forbids zone defense. They entered their first tourney in the fall and didn't know what to expect.  Early games proved a great challenge and the girls learned even more.  By the time the OBAs arrived the girls were ready.
Featuring a roster made up many underage players (bodes well for next year) the Panthers rolled on to a GOLD Medal.
Congrats to all the 8 AllStar Coaches (including 4 women), this teams 2 Head Coaches, the girls on the roster and all 56 girls in AllStar who helped this team improve every week.
With over 300 girls registered with our Club in 2011/12, every girl wants to be a Panther in 2012/13 !

2012 Provincials BRONZE!
"You won't recognize them by next March" head Coach Mathews said in early September.  Well he was partially right.  Sweat and puffing has been replaced by smiles as the Panthers Major Bantam Boys returned home with Bronze Medals from the provincials.  A complete team effort and willingness to play hard D worked to the team's advantage and positive things happended.
Another team that built individual skills and confidence by participating in our AllStar house league and REP at the same time.  You can see how building confidence in young people by allowing them to make mistakes in a friendly environment like house league brings rewards once you head into the REP season.
With Panther Pride we say Congrats Boys!!

2012 Provincials 4th
What??? How can you put a Co-Ed team together, include players a year younger, practice less than 2 months and still bring home a Provincials Medal?  Just ask our Atom Boys #2 team which proved boys and girls can play competitive basketball on the same team.
Parents spoke loudly this year, choosing our AllStar program over REP back in September of 2011.  They simply chose to let their children develop self confidence and skills in our house leagues.  Come January the entire coaching team of Burlington Basketball including MBAB, AllStar in both girls and boys supported the formation of the team you see here. The Basketball Ontario Medals around their necks and smiles on their faces prove the effort was worth it in the end!  GO Panthers!

2012 Provincials 4th.
Get those girls on the court!  3 years ago some of these girls had never touched a basketball but in the spring of 2012 they brought home  4th place medals from the Provinical Championships for Major Atom Girls.  Once again the club sourced players from both MBAB and AllStar to put together a team so they could test the REP system.  Bringing home a medal means the Burlington Basketball House League system is often more challenging than playing REP.
A special thank you to Coaches Bernie and Ioana who really empowered the girls with self confidence and belief in themselves.
Panther Pride is shown every time these girls hit the court!  Congrats!

Panther Pride in Grade 9
This was the first season together for this group of Grade 9 boys. Five of them had previiously played only one year of rep basketball for the Panthers, while the other fiver were MBAB and AllStar players with no rep experience.  Practicing and playing together as an AllStar team since October, the boys won half their AllStar games against teams that had high school basketball players from grades 9, 10 and 11.  During the rep seasn they played in 21 games, only winning a few, but were competitive against strong A and AA teams from all across the province.  At the OBAs they missed playing for bronze by just four points.
Coaches Cherry and Pope are pleased with the team's effort and progress as this bodes well for the next season.
