LAST SEASONS TEAM RESULTS In unprecedented numbers, Burlington Basketball Panthers placed 4 members from our U16 Gold winning provincial championships team on Team Ontario for this summers Ontario Games. A dominating performance resulted in the Central West team winning all games contested not only at the Games but in all games they participated in this summer. After the team had been selected Panther's own Coach Vuk, was selected as a Coach for the team, building on his experience at the elite basketball level. These players are not only great athletes but they also are even greater young men and role models for all the other boys in our programs. 2012 Panthers sets NEW club record!
Back in 2005/6 Burlington Basketball, under the recommendations of Canada Basketball, undertook the challenge of radically changing the way our youth basketball players were being developed. It was not easy and many questioned whether we were on the right track. Now a full 7 seasons later the results are being seen on the court.
An unprecedented 70% of all our players to compete in the Provincials returned home with Medals around their necks. Receiving recognition for level of sportsmanship and leadership.
The Panther Athlete Development Model once again proved why parents have made Burlington Basketball Ontario's #1 Basketball club for player registrations.
We would like to congratulate our entire 127 position coaching team from 2011/12 who helped make this happen.
2012 Provincials GOLD!
What does every basketball Mom want for Mother's Day? A rose, a kiss and a photo beside their son biting a GOLD medal from the provincials. Well some Burlington Basketball Mom's got that and more as the Panthers not only won gold but demonstrated how Burlington Panthers players are more than just basketball players but also proud Canadian citizens.
With the Atom Boys Provincial Cahmpionships being held in Burlington this year Burlington Basketball and their Coaches knew it would be the first time Ontario got a chance to see why house league participation was so important with the Burlington Basketball Player Development Model on full display.
"Let's put it all together for the OBAs!" and they did! Bringing home a GOLD medal for the first time this season the Burlington Basketball Panthers Major Bantam Girls team, proved it's how you finish the season not how you start.
2012 Provincials BRONZE! "You won't recognize them by next March" head Coach Mathews said in early September. Well he was partially right. Sweat and puffing has been replaced by smiles as the Panthers Major Bantam Boys returned home with Bronze Medals from the provincials. A complete team effort and willingness to play hard D worked to the team's advantage and positive things happended.
2012 Provincials 4th
What??? How can you put a Co-Ed team together, include players a year younger, practice less than 2 months and still bring home a Provincials Medal? Just ask our Atom Boys #2 team which proved boys and girls can play competitive basketball on the same team. 2012 Provincials 4th.
Get those girls on the court! 3 years ago some of these girls had never touched a basketball but in the spring of 2012 they brought home 4th place medals from the Provinical Championships for Major Atom Girls. Once again the club sourced players from both MBAB and AllStar to put together a team so they could test the REP system. Panther Pride U12 Medals, Smiles and another year learning brought Coach Bianchi and the boys to a medal performance in the 2011/12 season. A first year of playing competitive basketball these boys all played as a team in AllStar in order to build team chemistry and confidence. Adding players as late as December proved the Burlington Basketball model of development is geared towards the players and not the team first. A great OBA experience placed the boys in challenging and learning experiences that only added to a great season. This was the first season together for this group of Grade 9 boys. Five of them had previiously played only one year of rep basketball for the Panthers, while the other fiver were MBAB and AllStar players with no rep experience. Practicing and playing together as an AllStar team since October, the boys won half their AllStar games against teams that had high school basketball players from grades 9, 10 and 11. During the rep seasn they played in 21 games, only winning a few, but were competitive against strong A and AA teams from all across the province. At the OBAs they missed playing for bronze by just four points.
Coaches Cherry and Pope are pleased with the team's effort and progress as this bodes well for the next season
U19 Boys Provincials Bronze Not to outdone by their younger Panther siblings, the U19 Boys returned home with a bronze medal from the provincials. Going 3-0 in round robin they lost their semi-finals by one point sending them to battle for the bronze. In the bronze medal game they won by a dominating performance finishing the game with an 11 point win. Many of these players will head off to play university ball this fall and we wish them all the best To Learn about our programs click the jersey
