A word on "who can" and "what it takes" to become the best. "Who Can"? Anyone who has an inner passion and drive to do "What it Takes"! "What it Takes"! 10,000 hours of Deliberate Practice. What is the difference between Practice and Deliberate Practice? Well, going out on a court and shooting the ball 500 times, day after day, is commonly called Practice. What makes Deliberate Practice different is that you practice for perfection. You guide your body in the perfect form of the shot. You go slow and deliberate. You focus on how your body moves through a shot and how it feels. If you are a little off in your form you correct it immediately. Deliberate Practice allows your mind to learn to send the right signals, at the right time, to the right muscles in order for the perfect shot to be accomplished. Repeated over and over, for tens of thousands of times, the mind begins to control the body automatically and in the end the perfect shot is accomplished. This is the same way musicians, mathematicians, and ballet dancers become the best! Follow this link to "Deliberate Practice" and then Google it some more. For 2009/10 Burlington Basketball's Panther program has moved to creating opportunities for those players with the Passion and Drive for the game of basketball to move forward on achieving their 10,000 hours. Practicing Basketball in an urban Canadian City like Burlington, means limited gym opportunities and a winter of snow and cold that makes practicing outside next to impossible. Far, Far too much time is spent on games instead of practice. The Challenge is how can Burlington Basketball give Canada it's next, Burlington version, of Steve Nash, a place to practice enough to achieve success? The fact is countries around the world are providing this opportunity to a large group of players. In Canada as of the fall of 2009, no such opportunity will exist. Through 35 years of experience in youth sports, Burlington Basketball knows we have the players! The question remains do they have the commitment? We are about to find out The Burlington Basketball "Deliberate Practice" Opportunity in Basketball.
