Welcome to our New Website! Hello Panthers and welcome back as a new season is less than 2 months away. Since last March, when some of your seasons were ending, we have been working diligently to update, upgrade and improve Burlington Basketball in every area. We hope you have been doing the same with your game! REGISTRATION FOR 2009/10 OPENS! With little fan fare Burlington Basketball opened registrations for Mini-Ball, MBAB and AllStar in July. Giving past players first chance at registering, by August 1st we were reaching over 50% capacity in some divisions. If you have not registered, please do it as soon as possible. 2009/10 Panthers REP Players allowed in our House Leagues! For the first time in our history Burlington Basketball will allow our REP players to play both REP and house leagues at the same time. This is a first in the province of Ontario as in theory a player can now practice 4 days a week, if they have a desire to do so. Summer Camps SOLD OUT! What else can coach Maga and his Skills Academy staff do, other than offer the best run basketball camps in the province? How about sell them out! Coach Maga's Shooter Camp in early August was such a success that we had to turn down requests from NON-Burlington Basketball players who wanted to attend. Wait til you see what Head Coach Maga has in stall next! Former Panthers join National Teams! It's with Great Panther Pride that we recognize Jennifer Vaughan for her summer with the Canadian National U-19 Women's Team. Jenny was a former Panther player who moved to the Canada Basketball NEDA program. Congrats Jennifer and thanks for being such a great role model for all our younger Girl Players. It's with Great Panther Pride that we recognize Mike Allison for his summer with the Men's Team. Mike's father coached Mike as a Panther Coach and we are proud to see Mike on the National Stage. Mike also was part of the Men's NEDA program. Congrats Mike and thanks for being such a great role model for any of our aspiring Boy Players. To date 5 former Burlington Basketball Players have moved on to the NEDA program in the last 3 years and we wish them all the best of luck in 2009/10. To learn more about NEDA go to www.basketball.ca 2008/9 High School Athletes of the Year dominated by former MBAB, AllStar and Panther players! There must be something in that Panther Water bottle. | Panther Pride Recognition: Last spring our Major Atom Boys Panther #1 Team traveled to Brampton for the provincial championships. After a very successful season, including great skills development and medaling in tournament play, including a Gold, the team went on to win their pool at the OBAs. As the excitement built the team received a phone call late Saturday night that the OBA convenor had not notified them of a error on a player substitution and although the rules stated it was the convenor's responsibility the team was still barred from the championship round. Since things happen quick at the OBAs no option for appeal was forwarded and the games went on without the Panthers at 10:00 am the next morning. As a demonstration of sportsmanship and Panther Pride the team left the tournament with their heads held high an inner knowledge that they had beat the eventual champion during pool play. Not letting the political elements of sport take anything away from their efforts the team returned to Burlington as a great example of how every Panther should strive to act in the face of adversity. We look forward to great 2009/10 season by this team and thank them all for holding their heads high. Panthers Bantam Boys #1 Team gets Recognized by Basketball Ontario. In the most recent issue of Basketball Ontario's Time-Out newsletter our Bantam Boys team were spotlighted for Outstanding Sportsmanship during the recent provincial Championships. Being the only team from Burlington to recieve this honour we want to acknowlegde this example of Panther Pride! Way to Go Panthers! PANTHER TRYOUTS BEGIN SEPT 19TH. We have confirmed Panther Tryouts will begin Sept 19th and run for the following 2/3 weeks. Please see our Panthers Page for more details about 2009/10 including our reduced rates! |
